IS THIS THE YEAR YOU LEARN HOW TO WRITE A HIT SONG?

SIGN UP NOW FOR THE SONG WRITING WORKSHOPS STARTING SEPTEMBER 12!

On the last round of student opinion polls, one of the top requests
from current students was that we offer song writing classes.

The classes are open to Academy students of any age
who are able to play or sing a few songs on their instrument.

The workshops will teach you about:

• Knowing where to start-Music or Lyrics

• Song Structure

• Writing Lyrics

• What is a song?

• Copyrights and Performing Rights Organizations

The overall aim of the workshop is to be a fun, informative
introduction to the remarkable craft of song writing.
Students will examine the key components of songs, the process
of writing songs, arranging songs and writing lyrics. Students will
be given the opportunity to work in groups and as individuals on
exercises designed to develop the skills necessary for
successful songwriting. A brief discussion will be held on song

Each workshop is 90 minutes long and will be held on Sunday afternoons September 12, October 17 and November 14 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00 per person, per class.

The deadline for registration is 3 days prior to the start of the class. Each class will feature different song writing examples and tools. Students can sign up for just one class, or all three!

Jeremy was recently featured in the Free Times news paper for his song writing ability. The paper said this about his new band “Postcard Fiction”:

“Postcard Fiction — Led by guitarist and singer-songwriter Jeremy Sakovich, local alt-rock/pop purveyors Postcard Fiction sound like the perfect ’90s rock radio band that never was. While comparisons to groups like Tonic and fellow Columbians Treadmill Trackstar are close to the mark, it is patently unfair not to give credit to the band for crafting such tight, commercially accessible pop songs with crisp lyrics and enough interest in sonic texture to keep even the most indie-minded kid in the crowd happy.”

These classes are limited to ten students per class, and they will sell out! To sign up you can sign up by phone (call 803-787-0931) or e-mail info@columbiaartsacademy.com
